Roc Nation launches line of greeting cards – Billboard
Roc Nation has partnered with American Greetings for a line of greeting cards, digital e-cards and virtual paper cards, the two companies announced today (May 13). The plan is for the greeting card company to leverage Roc’s roster of music clients to create a line of products in what’s described as a one-of-a-kind partnership with a music company.
“When we were introduced to the executives of American Greetings and started discussing the idea of personalized greetings, both on behalf of Roc Nation and its artists, we felt like it was a natural fit,” said Roc Nation’s president of business operations and strategy. Initially, the partnership – described as spanning multiple years and multiple artists – will be part of American Greetings’ “Celebrity SmashUps” line of digital cards, where customers can receive personalized messages and personalized lyrics from Dolly Parton, Michael Bolton, Smokey Robinson, Donny Osmond, Shaq and the Naked Cowboy. Eventually, a range of physical cards that will be found in stores, as well as virtual paper cards, will follow.
“We are building relationships with leading global companies and are thrilled to add American Greetings as our greeting card holder,” said Tom Caravel, CEO of Roc Nation United, a strategic licensing alliance between Roc Nation and United Entertainment Group, in a statement announcing the agreement. “Roc Nation United is focused on creating innovative ways for artists and athletes to connect with their fans, and this new relationship with American Greetings is a great opportunity to do that in a very special and entertaining way.”
It’s unclear with Roc Nation which artists will participate, or to what extent, or what these cards and “SmashUps” might look like. But American Greetings has a proven track record in music. in addition to his ‘SmashUps’ collaborations, his partnership with Robinson – brokered by Primary Wave – involved creating a new party just for the veteran crooner, while he signed a partnership with Taylor Swift in late 2009 for a line of hit cards. greetings and stationery that ran through the release of her album Red. Even further, AG struck deals with Def Jam, Concord, and Univision on ringtones, cellphone wallpapers, and e-cards, among other things for the then nascent mobile market.
